Choosing a Major and Preparing for Law School
Many FSU students are interested in preparing for a legal career and admission to law school. It is important to note that FSU does not have a formal Pre Law major and students can prepare for admission to law school through a variety of majors. While students can prepare for law school admissions through virtually any major, some of the most common majors of students applying to law school include:
- Political Science
- Criminology
- Business
- Psychology
- History
- International Relations
- English
- Economics
- Philosophy
Once again however, students may prepare for and apply to law schools from any major ranging from the arts to technical/scientific disciplines. Often, a minor or emphasis in relevant legal related courses as well as out of classroom experiences including leadership in student organizations, community service, international study and internships add to students' preparation for admission to law school.
Undergraduate Studies assists students in selecting majors, choosing courses and developing academic plans in support of law school. In addition, the Career Center and FSU Prelaw Advisors help with planning for a legal career.
The Prelaw Handbook has in-depth information on undergraduate preparation and applying to Law School.
